Payment for Amazon Reviews?

A fellow author of programming books has offered to pay Amazon reviewers of his new book an amount equal to the per-copy royalty. I am afraid I will not be able to match the offer for the following reasons:

1. I think it's unethical.
2. I think it's tacky.
3. Not also having a real job, I need my royalties to pay my rent and feed myself so I can continue writing more books in the future.
