A Million Little Programs

April 2, 2012
New York, N.Y.

My programming tutorials tend to have lots of little programs to illustrate particular techniques, so as I've been working on the first several chapters of Programming Windows, 6th edition, here's what the far end of the Windows 8 Start screen soon became:

Hey! How'd that cat get in there?

Comments:

Maybe its an April 1st feature?

I think it may be one of those rare programs in my book that has a custom tile. — Charles

When you hit (Ctrl-)F5 in Visual Studio you actually deploy the app on Windows 8. This is to register for the Charms' contracts etc.

I wish I knew a way to run the app from Visual Studio without deploying it. It would also be nice to be able to select multiple tiles from the Start screen and uninstall them all with one shot. — Charles
